PKR Heads Up Grand Slam Winner - Vladimir Geshkenbein

Another Star studded live poker event in the UK, this time it was the PKR Heads Up Grand Slam creating headlines in the weeks Poker News

A new name emerged from the pack to take down the PKR Headsup Grand Slam. Vladimir Geshkenbein of Russia was one of the lesser known names in this event, but no stranger to high stakes after winning the High Rollers event at the APPT in Macau earlier this year.

Geshkenbein bested a field that included Tony G, the Devilfish, Tom Dwan, Luke Schwartz, Annette Obrestad, Peter Eastgate, JC Tran and Ian Frazer to win the event, beating TV poker veteran Juha Helppi in the final. The aggressive Russian pummelled Helppi into submission in their match to win the $120,000 first prize. He also beat Alex Keating, Brahim Hajji, David Steicke and James Sudworth on his way to the final.

FTOPS. Second place for Żelik - a Polish Poker Player.

Polish Player Pawel Chmiel called Żelik nearly won in the 6th tourney in XIII FTOPS. An entire event is about 25 poker tournaments and the competition is held between 5th and 18th of August 2009. The main tournament is played in the last day with the win prize of 2 500 000$.

Poker Tourney number 6 was a PL Omaha 6 max, with buy-in 500+35$ and 833 poker players. The host of that tournaments was Eddy Scharf. The win prize because of the high number of players went over 400 000 $.



After 8 hours of playing there were only 2 players left. Paweł and Smouse156 shared the win prize with 71 000 $ each. Further game was played with 5,000$ and the title of the winner went to the Pawel's opponent. Anyway 2nd place in FTOPS was a big achievement for that young Polish player.

One small change to the Cake Poker full ring tables includes making them 9 seats instead of 10. This small change means that Cake Poker’s full ring tables now conform with what has become industry standard.
Changing the number of seats at Cake Poker is the first major change under new poker room manager Lee Jones. Lee Jones was previously a manager of Poker Stars and helped contribute to the massive growth of the site, so you expect something similar to happen at Cake Poker too in the coming future!

Cake poker today announced that as from the 1st of May 2009 they will be changing there rakeback policy. Online poker players who have signed up to a cake poker rakeback deal will now receive the full 33% net rakeback with no deductions.

As you may already know, costs such as Gold Chips or Gold Cards are currently subtracted from the gross rake (MGR). The resulting rake is the net rake (NGR), on which the rakeback is based. Cake Poker will be removing this deduction and provide full rakeback.

However, in order to compensate for this rakeback deduction removal, rakeback players will now receive 50% less FPPs, which means they will clear bonuses more slowly and earn less gold chips.

Poker software applications for mobile devices have seen exponential growth over the last year, fueled by either the iPhone Operating System (OS), the Blackberry OS, or the popular Windows Mobile platform.

On April 16th, a much more stable edition was released publicly, meaning that any player armed with a Windows Mobile OS cell phone could play poker for real money from the comfort of their cell phone.This unprecedented step forward for the online poker industry is the first of its kind and has the poker world buzzing. The leap in technology by Cake Poker and its network could put a serious dent into the operations of major rooms like Full Tilt Poker, which have yet to adopt any sort of mobile platform solution.Installing Cake Poker Mobile must be done on a Windows Mobile 5.0 cell phone device. In addition, some Windows Mobile 5.0 users might have to install Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework, which can be downloaded for free. Also supported are a WiFi, Bluetooth and direct tethered connection to a PC.
